Terry Sawchuk, in fullTerrence Gordon Sawchuk, (born Dec. 28, 1929, Winnipeg, Man., Can.—died May 31, 1970, New York City, N.Y., U.S.), skilled North American ice hockey goalie.

After enjoying two seasons within the U.S. Hockey League (1947–48) and the American Hockey League (1948–49), Sawchuk started his National Hockey League (NHL) profession with the Detroit Red Wings in 1949. With them throughout his first keep, his goals-against common was lower than two. He was traded to the Boston Bruins in 1955 and performed with them for 2 seasons earlier than he was traded again to the Red Wings in 1957.
